The International Federation of Associations for the Advancement of Science
and Technology (IFAAST) was formed on the 8th of May, 1991, at an
inaugural meeting in Hong Kong
hosted by the
Hong Kong Association for the Advancement
of Science and Technology (HKAAST).
The IFAAST Constitution, which was
signed at the Meeting, gave concrete form to currents of thought that had
been present for some time.
Thus, IFAAST is the realisation of a vision
which brings together like-minded associations so as to promote communication
and collaboration between them.
From its inception, IFAAST has fostered networking in order to focus on major
world problems, to improve the international understanding of their
complexity, and harness the power of science and technology towards their
solution.
Associations, not present at the inaugural meeting, have been encouraged by
the goals of IFAAST and have joined in order to further scientific and
technological advancement.
Currently, there are twenty-eight National Associations.
Since it is expected that many of these Associations will be restricted
financially, it is IFAAST policy to keep membership subscriptions as low as
practicable, during our formative years, and rely on each Association to
select the highest rate which is affordable.
There are three annual
subscription levels, $750.00, $300.00, and $150.00, all payable in
Australian Dollars.
