Born Melbourne 10 December 1920. Education, University of Melbourne (B.Sc. 1942) and Cambridge University (Ph.D. 1948). Research officer, C.S.I.R. Lubricants and Bearings Section (later Division Tribophysics, then Materials Science), 1941-82; Senior principal Research scientist, 1965-82.
