Born Sydney 24 July 1896; died Melbourne 5 November 1982. Education Sydney University (B.Sc. 1916) and Royal College of Science, London, 1918-19. Member of the Australian munitions team, U.K., 1916-18. Physicist, Munitions Supply Laboratories, Maribyrnong, 1923-38. Officer-in-charge, Metrology Section, National Standards Laboratory, 1939-45; Chief, C.S.I.R. Division of Metrology, 1945-61. Officer-in-charge, National Standards Laboratory, 1940-58; Director, 1958-61.
