Born Sydney 10 December 1907. Education Sydney University (B.Sc. 1929, M.Sc. 1930) and Cambridge University (Ph.D. 1933). Lecturer, later Reader in physics, University College London 1934-54. D.Sc., London University, 1946. Principal Kumasi College of Technology, Ghana, 1954-60. Colombo Plan Professor of physics at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, 1960-66. Director of the Papua New Guinea Institute Technology, Lae, 1966-73. O.B.E. 1975.
