KAY, Joseph Henry

Born London, 1815 (?); died Melbourne 17 July 1875. Midshipman R.N., 1827; lieutenant 1839; commander 1849; retired as captain 1865. Director, Rossbank magnetic observatory, Hobart, 1840-53. Private secretary to the governor of Victoria, 1854-55. Clerk to the Executive Council, Victoria, 1855-75. F.R.S. 1846.
