Lewis Norman (Lew) Mander is Leader / Dean of the Research School of Chemistry at the Australian National University and has worked there since 1975. His research interests include studying methods and strategies for the synthesis of complex natural products which have interesting biological properties. Professor Mander is a Fellow of The Royal Society (FRS) and the Australian Academy of Science (FAA), and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand. He has been a Nuffield Fellow (Cambridge University, 1972), a Fulbright Senior Scholar (California Institute of Technology, 1977, and Harvard University, 1986) and an Eminent Scientist of RIKEN, Japan. He was awarded the H.G. Smith Medal of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute in 1981 and the Flintoff and Organic Synthesis Medals of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
