Ron W. Turnbull worked for the Postmaster-General's Department. After a career that combined the planning and installation of local and trunk networks, telephone transmission and traffic engineering, he was appointed superintending engineer, planning, at headquarters in 1955. In 1957 he was appointed chairman of ANSO (Automatic Network and Switching Objectives committee), which was set up to develop a national telephone plan that would eventually bring about a totally integrated automatic (STD) dialling system in Australia. He was awarded the Professional Officers Association Award Merit for his work on this committee. During the 1970s he served as Telecom's representative on the board of OTC (Overseas Telecommunications Commission (Australia)). |
