David Hugh (Hugh) Trollope developed a novel procedure of cyclic pre-loading which was used on the piles of the Tasman Bridge at Hobart to solve the problem of excessive deflection under load.

Warren Memorial Prize, Institution of Engineers Australia 1966; Fellow, Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering 1983; Kernot Medal, University of Melbourne 1984. Foundation Chairman, Australian Geomechanics Society 1970-72.
