Born: 1824 Wales. Died: 5 June 1894. | |
Evan Rowlands and Robert Lewis began manufacturing soft drinks in Ballarat in 1854, the only people using machinery at the time. They opened a factory in Ballarat in 1870 and in Melbourne in 1873. Rowlands died in 1894, but his company continued until well after World War II, when it was sold to Schweppes. Rowlands also introduced the crown cork seal into Australia. |
