Mort, Thomas Sutcliffe (1816 - 1878)

Born: 23 December 1816  Bolton, Lancashire, England.  Died: 9 May 1878  Bodalla, New South Wales, Australia.
Thomas Sutcliffe Mort was a successful auctioneer, who undertook a number of business ventures, including a dry dock at Balmain, two mining companies and a farm near the mouth of the Tuross river. One of his major contributions was his support of refrigeration, providing financial assistance to E.D. Nicolle (qv) from 1866 to 1878 to develop commercially viable systems for domestic trade.
