MacDougall, James (1858 - 1942)

Born: 9 July 1858  Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland.  Died: 8 April 1942  East Malvern, Victoria, Australia.
James MacDougall established the Austral Nail Company in South Melbourne in 1889, expanding into barbed wire in 1905 and wiredrawing in 1911. He opened a second plant at Newcastle, New South Wales in 1919. In 1921 Austral amalgamated with Rylands Bros Ltd to become Rylands Bros (Australia) Ltd. This merged with B.H.P. in 1925, at which stage MacDougall retired.
