Born: 15 March 1910 Westcliff, England. Died: 29 December 1999. | |||
Francis Arthur Fox worked in England and West Africa before arriving in Melbourne in 1953. From 1957-70 he was Chief Superintendent, Defence Standards Laboratory, Department of Supply, Maribyrnong. During World War II he made a significant conrribution to the war effort with his work on magnesium technology. |

Metallurgist, Taquah & Abosso Gold Mines, Gold Coast, West Africa 1932-34; ICI Metals Division 1934-38; Chief Metallurgist, Magnesium Elektron Ltd 1938-47; Departmental Director, British Welding Research Association 1947-50; Technical Manager, J.J. Enthoven Ltd London 1950-52; Superintending Scientist, Australian Defence Scientific Service 1952-57; Chief Superintendent, Defence Standards Laboratories (DSL), Department of Supply 1957-70. Robertson Award, British Institute of Metals; Florence Taylor Award, Australian Institute of Metals. Commemorated by the Francis Fox Laboratory at DSL, opened in 1985. | ||
