Born: 11 November 1816 Bodmin, Cornwall, England. Died: 2 March 1892 Brighton, Sussex, England. | ||
(Sir) John Coode was a British engineer who visited Australia on a number of occasions to make recommendations on developing ports from Fremantle round the southern and eastern coasts to the Gulf of Carpentaria. His first visit was to report to the Melbourne Harbor Trust. His proposed river improvement and the dock site locations were the basis on which the modern port of Melbourne has been developed. |
