Peter Noar worked for the Bureau of Meteorology for the 40 years from 1957 to1998, and retired as Assistant Director (Services). In that role he was responsible for setting up the Services Policy Branch to develop plans, policies, procedures and monitoring systems for the national Weather Services Program. Noar was also Chair of Joint Management-Staff Association Working Group to conduct a Review of Staff Categories Involved in the Provision of Weather Services (which led to a rationalisation of the role of meteorologists and technical officers in operational forecasting and the closure of several weather service offices).
