Susan Lesley Barrell has worked for the Bureau of Meteorology since 1980, and specialises in the international science policy area, particularly on issues of climate change. |
Career Highlights | ||
Educated: BSc (Hons), University of Canterbury, New Zealand, 1976; PhD (Astronomy), Australian National University, 1980; Dipl. Meteorology, Bureau of Meteorology, 1980. Joined the Bureau of Meteorology in 1980 and has worked in most areas of the Bureau's operations, including operational analysis, research, systems development, climate services, climate change, planning and policy. Since 1994 she has been engaged substantially in the international science policy area, mainly on the climate change issue, and has participated actively as an Australian delegate in the work of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (FCCC). Sue chairs an informal UNFCCC contact group on research and systematic observations and works closely with science agencies, particularly the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS) and other intergovernmental representatives on ways to implement scientific elements of UNFCCC decisions. She is Supervising Meteorologist, Policy and Secretariat Section, Executive and International Affairs Branch. | ||
