Born: 12 June 1902 North Fitzroy, Victoria, Australia. Died: 27 October 1960. | |
Charles Ernest W. Bryant was a lawyer and amateur ornithologist. He was keenly interested in avian taxonomy and nomenclature and in the protection of native birds. He was editor of the Royal Australian Ornithologists Union journal, The Emu, 1929-60 and was very successful at raising funds to keep its production costs down. |

Born North Fitzroy, Victoria, 12 June, 1902. Died North Balwyn, Victoria, 27 October 1960. Educated University of Melbourne. Admitted to Victorian Bar May, 1929; partner in the Melbourne legal firm of Moule, Hamilton and Derham at the time of his death. Editor, The Emu 1929-60. Corresponding Fellow, American Ornithologists' Union 1950; Corresponding Member, British Ornithologists' Union 1950; Australian Natural History Medallion 1957. President, Royal Australasian Ornithologists' Union (RAOU) 1955-57; first Convener and later member, RAOU checklist Committee 1938-60. Honorary Associate in Ornithology, National Museum of Victoria 1948; member, Committee of Management, Sir Colin McKenzie Sanctuary, Healesville 1949; involved in having the Altona salt works proclaimed a sanctuary. |
