Maxwell James O'Connor worked in the chemistry department at La Trobe University from 1969 until his death in 1985, rising from research fellow to Reader. One of his major projects was studying the chemistry of molybdenum in biological systems. |

Cadet chemist, South Australian Department of Mines Chemical Laboratories, Frewville (later the Australian Mineral Development Laboratories (AMDEL)) during university vacations, research chemist, AMDEL 1958-61, study for PhD, University of Adelaide 1962-63 and Monash University 1964-65, Senior Teaching Fellow, Monash University 1964-66, postdoctoral work with Professor R H Holm, University of Wisconsin and Massachusetts Institute of Technology 1966-69, research fellow, La Trobe University 1969-70, lecturer 1970-72, senior lecturer 1972-82, reader 1982-85. Chairman, Division of Coordination Metal Organic Chemistry, Royal Australian Chemical Institute 1982-85. |
