Cochrane, John Robert Swan (1891? - 1955)

Born: 1891?  Victoria, Australia.  Died: 3 October 1955.
John Robert S. Cochrane spent his entire working life in various government explosives factories. From 1948 to 1950 he was appointed Chief Chemical Engineer and Director of the Defence Supply Planning Branch, which he established. In May 1945 he was appointed as Leader of the Australian Scientific and Technical Mission to Germany. As well as collecting information on German industry of value to Australia, Cochrane was responsible for the selection of German chemists and chemical engineers who wished to migrate and could bring into Australia expert knowledge of many industries, including the German development of bituminous and brown coals.
