Born: 30 March 1801 London, England. Died: 4 December 1875 England. | |||
Charles Joseph La Trobe was the first Superintendent of the Port Phillip District 1839-51 and then Lieut-Governor of the newly formed Colony of Victoria until 1854. His interest in nature led to the founding of, among other institutions, the Melbourne Botanic Gardens. |
